Road Biking Crashing

I fell off of my bike again this last weekend. It sucked because I was having such a good day. I had just given an inspirational workshop that introduced the game design program on campus to a bunch of under privileged high school students. It ran super well and the students came up with awesome mechanics in only 1 hour! So it put me in a good mood afterward.

I was on the bike path and at the end there’s a weird turn and dip at the same time with a curb placed in an inconvenient spot. I was going too fast and I knew it! But I couldn’t brake because it wouldn’t do anything, so I sat on my bike expecting a crash. Unfortunately there’s a wooden post right behind the curb, so it stopped my momentum. One good thing was that my landing was really soft. I was on grass! When I got up, I thought, “O man, that was embarassing. Did anyone see me flip 360 degrees?” I quickly jumped up and thought, “O wow, I dont hurt at all.” Then I heard air coming out from my front tire. My bike was still standing upright, by the way, it was really strange. But the impact didn’t damage the wheel at all. I’m so relieved! I was expecting the rim to be all bent and ugly.

The bad part? Well turns out my arm got screwed pretty bad. It felt like death 5 minutes later. In slow motion, I think my right arm hit the wooden post 7 times while my body was flying past it. You can tell because of the distinct contact patterns my arm had. It took a day for my bruises to rise to the surface. It looked different everyday, actually. I have photos! But I don’t think people really want to see them, so I didn’t post it. Maybe in the future.

Anyways, from all of this, I’m happy none of my joints are in trauma like my last crash. My first fall on my road bike was on February 3 and it wasn’t until 2 weeks ago when all of the pain finally went away. From this recent crash, the only joint pain I have is in my thumb. The only inconvenience that brings is having to be extra careful in aikido. Other than that, my arm is still all bruised but at least it doesn’t hurt if I don’t touch it.

Oh, I should mention that I can’t feel anything if I scratch the surface on some parts of my arm now. Is that normal after impact for 4 days? Haha.

Job Hunt

The last career fair of the school year happened yesterday. Over 30 (I think) companies came with recruiters that gave and received interviews. I, just like the other hundreds of students, was nervous and it took me a good 10 minutes to finally approach someone. I had 10 resumes printed out, but I think I only gave away 5, 2 of which were solid job applications. I felt good when I left because I talked to people… about jobs… and potentially getting one.

But when I got home I realized I had a typo in my resume. I hope that doesn’t kill any opportunities for me. I also realized that the text was small. On screen it looks fantastic, but I should have made a bit more time to edit my resume.

O well. It was the experience that mattered, right? Right!

Tree Charm

This tree was supposed to be covered with clay and baked, but for some reason or another I decided against it and just painted it with acrylics. It was supposed to have wire hanging from it, able to hold charms, earrings, and bracelets, but I scrapped that idea too. Now it’s just a tree. It stands about one foot tall and has a wire/foil body.

My Dear

For… lack of a better title. I don’t know. Well, I have good news and bad news about my world of laptopness. My financial aid adviser emailed me last weekend, telling me that I had some extra money. She said she would reduce my grants unless I had “higher costs”, something school or health related. Of course, I immediately replied and asked if I could get my alienware repaired or if I could get a new one and she said, “Of course! You have a budget of $4,200. Good luck!” Well, not in those exact words, but yes!!! I get a new laptop! Now what do I do with this one? It’s still in an okay condition but it’s about two years old now and it has a really large 17″ widescreen display that I can use still. But, enough with that ramble.

[edit] I totally forgot to write the downside, hah. The discount I want for my new laptop ends next thursday but I don’t know whether or not I will get my money by then. Should I spend cash I have in the bank for it right now to save $500 or should I wait and not get the discount? My problem is that 0.009% of not getting my monies. Blech. [/edit]

I’m starting to get back into my web design roots. I haven’t designed any new layouts or anything, but I’ve been geting that disturbing burst of inspiration where I keep getting distracted from doing my take-home midterm. It’s bad! This midterm is for my interactive narrative class and it’s due tuesday, but I only finished about half of it and that took me 5 hours. The professor said that it took students on average 10 hours last year to complete it, so I’m a bit bummed. I’m also burnt out too. I played two games so far for it, one called the Witch’s Yarn and the other Passage. The WY only lets me play one hour free so I didn’t get too far… I dont think. I thought the Passage was buggy because right hand side of the screen didn’t render correctly, but it turns out that was how it was designed. Hah!

Anyways, we’re gonna watch Stardust. We bought it today at BestBuy because I said it was a nice film.
